Many newborns develop dermatitis to their posterior region because fruit juice, an acidic beverage, is introduced into the diet prematurely. The fruit juice can cause feces to become more acidic and cause skin irritation to the baby's bottom. If the baby develops dermatitis it might be wise to discontinue any juice intake.

It is important to change diapers as soon as needed but try to clean gently with a soft cloth baby's bottom. Let the area dry before applying a fresh diaper. If the infant has any trace of skin irritations avoid using scented wipes because the chemical fragrance can make the condition worse.

If the child is experiencing skin irritations do not rub the skin excessively when wiping the baby's bottom. Some moms use a water bulb syringe to rinse the skin rather than using a cloth to wipe the area. Once that area has been thoroughly rinsed allow the skin to air out and dry totally before applying a fresh diaper.

Supplement diaper dermatitis care with a home based ointment or a commercial product made specifically for posterior dermatitis. Many moms are using organic based ointments or oils to treat their newborns because they believe organic based treatments are more effective than chemical, store bought, products. Some moms believe that organic treatments are better absorbed by the baby's skin and provide almost instant soothing of the irritated skin.
